Financial aid programme ended as planned

The interim financial aid for students in pandemic-related emergencies has ended on schedule as of September 30, 2021. See the press release dated Aug. 25, 2021.

Submitting new applications is no longer available. Students who have submitted an application by the 30th of September 2021 can continue to view it at least the end of October 2021. The student service organisations will process all applications received by Sept. 30, 2021!

Applications for interim financial aid can be submitted until the end of September 2021

Early in the coronavirus crisis, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched a programme to help students facing financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic. More than 100,000 students have since received interim financial aid (Überbrückungshilfe) under that programme, many of them for several months. In the past few months, the job market for students has recovered noticeably, and the number of applications for interim financial aid keeps going down. This is why the BMBF and Deutsches Studentenwerk (DSW) have agreed that the financial aid programme will end as planned on 30 September 2021.

Interim financial aid available to students facing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has provided more funds to help students who can demonstrate an acute financial need caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Eligible students can receive financial aid under the Ministry’s interim financial aid (Überbrückungshilfe) programme until end of September 2021. Award decisions will be made by the competent local Studentenwerk institutions.

Important information: Applications must be submitted online.

Please submit your application via the www.​ueb​erbr​ueck​ungs​hilf​e-​studierende.​de website.

If you already received financial aid under the programme in the summer of 2020, you can use your old log in details. Be aware, however, that you will need to upload an enrolment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung, Studienbescheinigung) for the current semester!

After an application has been accepted, payments will be arranged for automatically on Monday and Thursday of each week.
